Faces of Color – closing reception

“Faces of Color”, Scott County Arts Consortium’s tribute to Black History Month, a celebration of art and culture closes on March 19. A reception to meet the artists will be held on Sunday, March 14 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at the Arts & Cultural Center, 117 North Water St., Georgetown. The show features woodcarving, painting, drawing, photography, and selected items from the Sisohpromotem gallery in Lexington. In additon you can view rare and beautiful artifacts from Africa. Also on view in the gift shop are pottery by Wyman Rice and Shirley Smith; handcrafted silver jewelry by Silverlark from Nashville; jewelry by Vicky Robinson; scarves by Ann Fister; floral photographs by Bruce Frank; a variety of notecards, photographs, and books including John S. Hockensmith, James Archambeault and other Kentucky authors. A purchase of Hockensmith’s “Spanish Mustangs” includes a coupon for a free print. Don’t miss this exciting show! Black History Month at the Arts & Cultural Center

The Scott County Arts Consortium would like to announce the opening reception of its Black History Month Exhibit: “Faces of Color: From Realism to Photography”. “Faces of Color” will run from February 12 – March 19. The opening reception will be held on Friday, February 12, 2010 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Scott County Arts & Cultural /Welcome Center located in downtown Georgetown at 117 North Water Street, Georgetown, KY 40324. The show includes collage, wood carvings, photography as well as traditional genres of drawing and painting. The night will also include a performance by jazz musicians and light refreshment. Bring a friend and check out our new finds in the gift gallery or bring a Valentine’s Date and enjoy a free night of entertainment! Come help us celebrate Black History Month. The show will be featuring local Georgetown photographer William McIntyre’s work as well as Lexington artists Sonja Brooks and LaVon Williams. Original Art and Fine Crafts, All Year!

The Scott County Arts Consortium wishes to thank all those who came to support the Third Annual Gallery & Gifts Holiday Market which closed on December 19. Thanks to all who came to browse the beautiful selection of original art and gifts, and a special thanks to all who made purchases. The market was a great success for the Arts & Cultural Center, and for the artists and craftsmen who worked many months to be able to present such a variety of wonderful items for sale.

The Arts & Cultural Center and Welcome Center at 117 North Water Street (the old jailer’s house) is open year round with an everchanging array of original art and fine crafted gift items by local and regional artists. The new year at the Arts & Cultural Center opens with “Shooting Gallery” by the local photography club, the Scott County Shooters, on Friday, January 8, with a reception from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The Life and Times of Governor William Goebel

The Scott County Arts Consortium presents a film festival on Governor William Goebel. For those interested in Kentucky history and politics this should be a great day! The festival features two films: “damn bad oyster….The Life and Times of William Goebel, Governor” by filmmaker Sean Anderson, which is on the Al Smith Fellowship Filmmaker Tour and has been seen on KET; and “Price and Power, William Goebel, the Man and the Myth by Georgetown’s own Dr. Ron Bryant and Tamara Gregory!

The festival is scheduled for Saturday, November 14, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Asher Science Center, Room 112, Georgetown College, at 320 E. College St. All are welcome to attend. Admission is free; donations are encouraged. The festival is made possible by an Al Smith Fellowship grant from the Kentucky Arts Council. Partnering in the event are Georgetown College, Scott County Council of the Arts, and Georgetown & Scott County Museum.

Regististration is from 9:00 to 9:30 am. Dr. James Klotter will open the program with a brief talk. Sean Anderson’s film will be screened at 10:00, with the second film scheduled for 12:30 following a lunch break. At 2:15 Dr. Klotter will moderate a panel discussion with Sean Anderson, Ron Bryant and Tamara Gregory. Then we’ll walk to the Museum to view an exhibit of Goebel artifacts. Third Annual Gallery & Gifts Holiday Market

The Third Annual Gallery & Gifts Holiday Market opens on November 1st at the Arts & Cultural Center, 117 North Water St., Georgetown. A wine & cheese opening reception will be held on Friday, November 6, 6 to 8 pm. Market hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays, 12:00 to 4:00 pm, and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Original art and fine gift items are available by local and regional artists, and some new artists from out of state.
